All engraving is crafted by hand. For Sterling silver parts only .925 Sterling silver is used for its durability, strength, and bright natural sheen. The pieces are sent to the Assay Office in Edinburgh (RJM pipes) or London (David Naill pipes), where the silver is appraised, tested, and struck with the quality mark (hallmarked).
In addition to silver, an option is available to choose German silver which has a very similar look and can be hard to tell apart from Sterling silver. It is an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc. It is a less expensive option to the hallmarked Sterling silver. Some photographs are at the bottom of this page.
